Favourite outdoor spots in Bristol for a family photoshoot

Family photographer | Bristol

Bristol is such a brilliant city for family photos. Green open spaces, woodland, waterfront, and colourful corners! Whether your kids love to run wild or you’re after something more low-key, there’s somewhere lovely for a relaxed, natural shoot.

Here are some of my go-to locations for outdoor family sessions in and around Bristol.

Ashton Court

I use Ashton Court a lot! There’s so much space for children to run and explore, and the light is often beautiful in the mornings or late afternoons. You’ll find long grass, big trees, woodland, and even deer if we’re lucky. It’s especially gorgeous in spring and autumn.

Leigh Woods

If your family loves being outdoors and a bit of an adventure, Leigh Woods is perfect. It feels quiet and peaceful even though it’s just across the bridge from the city. There are little paths, logs to climb, and so much green everywhere. It’s a great spot for letting kids be themselves and that’s when the best photos happen!

Oldbury Court

This is a brilliant option for families with younger kids. There’s loads of space to run around, play areas to explore, and some lovely woodland paths down by the river. There’s a real mix of open grassy and wooded areas. I love how versatile it is. We can find pockets of quiet or head to busier spots depending on your family’s vibe.

Bristol Harbourside

Looking for something a bit more urban? The Harbourside is full of energy and colour. There are boats, bridges, murals, and reflections on the water – loads of variety in a small area. I often suggest this one if you want a shoot that feels a bit different or more ‘city’.

Kings Weston House

This is such a lovely and often overlooked location. The grounds around Kings Weston House are peaceful and really picturesque. There’s woodland, open lawns, and the beautiful old house itself as a backdrop. It’s great for families who want a quieter spot with a bit of charm and history. There’s space for little ones to roam, and plenty of texture and colour all year round.

Blaise Castle Estate

This one’s a favourite for families with younger children. There’s loads to explore — woodland, little streams, a castle tower, open space for games.

Brandon Hill

If you’re after a shorter, easy-going shoot close to the city centre, Brandon Hill is a lovely option. There’s a great view over Bristol and lots of grassy space.
