A year can feel like both a lifetime and a blink of an eye, when it comes to a baby’s first year.

I was asked to return to this lovely family in Keynsham, one year after doing a newborn session for them. Ava had just celebrated her first birthday, and they wanted to mark this significant milestone with a special photoshoot.

The first year of a child’s life is filled with so many changes and memories, and having the opportunity to capture these moments for families is always a true honour.

We began the photo session in the warmth of their home. Being in a familiar setting made it easier for Ava to relax, allowing her to get used to me my camera. There were lots of new birthday toys which provided some ideal entertainment while I got a few shots. These moments, though simple, brought out lots of smiles.

Once we had done a few indoor shots, we headed outside to take advantage of the sunshine and went along a footpath near to their home.

Sunlight filtered beautifully through the leaves of the trees, creating a dreamy, golden atmosphere.

The colours, the soft sunlight, and the love they clearly felt for this little girl, all contributed to the mood of this session. While Ava might not have fully understood the significance of the day, the photographs will always be a reminder of this special time in her life.

This photoshoot was not just about marking a milestone, it was about capturing the essence of a family’s love and connection. These are the kinds of moments that families love for years. It was an opportunity to preserve Ava’s first year, which will soon give way to even more milestones.
