Newborn photos | Baby photographer Bath
Capturing those early days with a newborn is such a special experience – it all goes by so fast! This little one was just a few weeks old, still getting used to the world, with expressions that shifted between peaceful calm and little bursts of fussiness. But no matter what, there was one place where she felt completely at ease – snuggled up in her mum’s arms!
One of the things I love most about newborn photography is capturing the raw, unscripted moments that unfold naturally. Babies, especially newborns, don’t pose or follow directions, which is what makes these sessions so special. Every stretch, yawn, tiny hand movement, and sleepy smile tells a story.
During this session, there were a few tearful moments, as is often the case with newborns. Babies cry to communicate, whether they need comfort, food, or just a reassuring touch. However, watching the way baby Lilly melted into her mother’s embrace was beautiful. It was as if the world around her disappeared, and all that mattered was being held close by the person she trusted most.
This photoshoot took place in the comfort of the family’s home, which made all the difference. Newborn sessions at home allow for a more relaxed and stress-free experience, no rushing out the door, no unfamiliar surroundings. Instead, the family could simply be together, and embrace the little moments that make up life with a newborn.
The house was filled with natural light, which gave the photos a gorgeous, soft glow. Light plays such a crucial role in photography, and in this case, the warm sunlight streaming through the windows created the perfect atmosphere.
We wanted to get some individual shots of Lilly while she was sleeping, but she had other plans! She seemed determined to stay awake, but a quick whizz around outside in her buggy did the trick! She was fast asleep, which gave us the perfect chance to lie her down on my beanbag for some beautiful portraits.
One of the most special things about newborn photography is capturing the bond between parents and their little one. In those early days, babies rely completely on their parents for comfort, love, and security, and you can see that connection in every tiny moment.
The newborn stage flies by in the blink of an eye. One moment, they’re tiny and sleepy, and before you know it, they’re growing, changing, and becoming more alert to the world around them. That’s why newborn photos are so important, they let families hold onto these little details even as time moves forward.
For baby Lilly and her parents, these photos will be something they can look back on forever. One day, when she’s all grown up, they’ll be able to flip through these images and remember just how tiny she once was.
