Relaxed, natural family photography in Somerset

Hi! I’m Alison, a Somerset family photographer with over a decade of experience photographing babies, children, families, and celebrations.

I specialise in natural, relaxed images taken at home or outdoors.

I work across Somerset capturing families with a mix of honest, candid moments and timeless portraits.

Raising children means life is messy, beautiful, and non-stop but somewhere in the middle of the chaos, I know you’d love to hold onto the connection, the laughter, and the way your family feels right now.

I’m here to get your family in some beautiful, natural photos!

Printed, framed, shared, or tucked away somewhere, these images will become part of your family’s story.

  • Your family photos aren’t just for today, they’re for your kids to look back on when they’re grown. They’re for remembering who you were, how you laughed, how you held each other close.

Whether it’s your toddler’s cheeky grin or a quiet cuddle, these are the memories you’ll want to hold onto. I guide you a little, but mostly I let your family be yourselves and that’s where the magic happens!

Your family photo session lasts about one hour with time for your children to play, explore, and be themselves. You can choose to do your photos at your home, in your garden, or meet at an outdoor location. A couple of weeks later, you’ll receive a private online gallery of carefully edited images.

Blog story - Family photoshoot in Cheddar, Somerset | Family photographer Somerset

Family photoshoots are special moments where memories are captured and preserved for years to come. I had the pleasure of spending just over an hour with a wonderful family in Cheddar, Somerset, creating timeless images that reflect the love and connection they share. From the youngest baby to the proud grandparents, the joy in this family was evident in every smile and interaction, making it a truly memorable experience.

As a family photographer, my goal is to capture not only the traditional portraits but also the small, candid moments that highlight the unique bonds between family members. Family shoots are more than just about taking a picture; they’re about documenting real-life connections and the emotions that come with them. Whether it’s the quiet moments of tenderness between parents and children or the energetic laughter shared by siblings, I aim to tell a story through most of my photographs, unless they are posed portraits that can be requested.

A lovely aspect of family photography is the opportunity to capture intergenerational connections – the bonds that span across different generations. This particular session was especially meaningful because it included grandparents as well as the younger generations. It’s not always just about the parents and kids. There’s something incredibly special about capturing those moments of love and connection between grandparents, parents, and their little ones.

When it comes to family portraits, having multiple generations in the frame adds a depth and richness to the image. It’s an opportunity to show how the family has grown and evolved over time.

During this session in Cheddar, I was able to photograph a variety of candid moments. There were smiles as the little ones played with their parents, laughter as siblings joked around, and quiet exchanges of affection between grandparents and children. These fleeting moments may seem small at the time, but they hold immense sentimental value as time passes. It’s these types of photos that become the family’s most treasured memories, bringing them back to a particular day, a moment in time, whenever they look at the photos.

As a family photographer, I feel incredibly lucky to be able to help families preserve these special moments. The beauty of family photography is that it’s not just about creating pretty pictures, it’s about creating lasting memories. Each photo tells a story: the story of how a family has come together, how they support one another, and how they grow and evolve over time.

Whether it’s an intimate family session or a larger gathering with extended family, I’m here to help preserve the moments that matter most!
