BRISTOL NEWBORN & BABY PHOTOGRAPHER
NATURAL BABY PHOTOSHOOTS at home in Bristol
I’m Alison, a Bristol newborn and baby photographer specialising in natural, relaxed baby photography. I offer my photoshoots to families across Bristol, Bath and the surrounding areas, capturing those early days in a calm, relaxed way.
If you’re looking for a baby photographer in Bristol and would prefer something less formal than a traditional studio session, my home photoshoots fit around your baby in your own space, where you are comfortable and have everything you need.
Most of the photoshoot is about capturing your family together with your new baby - the holding, the closeness, the quiet moments between you. Alongside that, I include a few simple, classic portraits of your baby, so that you get both the real family moments and those timeless newborn images.
The result is a set of pictures that feel personal and natural.
“Thank you so much for a lovely newborn photo experience! You made things so easy and enjoyable and the pictures are absolutely gorgeous! Cannot recommend you highly enough!!”
~ Julie Ruffolo
What to expect from your photoshoot
If you've never had a newborn photoshoot before, it's completely normal to wonder how it all works. The short answer is that it's much more relaxed than you might think - there's no set routine, no pressure, and everything is led by your baby. I've put together a full guide to what a newborn photoshoot looks like if you'd like to know more.
“We’ve had a few photoshoots with Alison, from my pregnancy to my daughter’s first birthday. The photos are always stunning and Alison is very friendly and puts everyone instantly at ease.”
-Cindy Hollingdale
Studio or home newborn photography?
Some newborn photographers work from studios, using posed setups and controlled lighting. My approach is different - I photograph babies at home, without props or complex setups, focusing on connection, light and atmosphere. For many families, this feels like a more relaxed and natural way to capture those early days. I've written a full guide comparing both approaches if you'd like to understand the difference.

When to book your newborn photoshoot
Newborn photoshoots are usually best within the first couple of weeks after birth, when babies are still very small and spend much of their time sleeping. That said, I keep things flexible. If your baby is a little older, that's absolutely fine. The session simply becomes more about interaction, expressions and connection. I recommend getting in touch during pregnancy to secure a space, but I can often accommodate last-minute bookings as well. I've written a more detailed guide on timing if you'd like to know more.
Frequently Asked Questions

At home. I come to you, work with the natural light in your rooms, and photograph your family in your own space. For many families this feels more relaxed and natural, especially in those early days when everything is still new. I've written a full guide comparing studio and home newborn photography if you're weighing up the options.

I photograph newborns and babies at home all across Bristol and the surrounding areas. Wherever you are in the city, I'll come to you.
-
It's very relaxed and led entirely by your baby. Most of the photoshoot is about capturing your family together with your new baby - the holding, the closeness, the quiet moments between you. I also take a few simple portraits of your baby on their own. We pause whenever we need to for feeds, nappy changes and cuddles. I've written a full guide to what happens during a newborn photoshoot if you'd like to know exactly what to expect.
-
This is completely normal. Babies feed, cry, need changing and have unsettled moments - that's just newborn life, and I'm very used to working around it. We take all the time we need, pause whenever your baby needs us to, and pick up where we left off.
-
If you'd like those classic sleepy, curled-up portraits of your baby, the first couple of weeks is the ideal time. But my photoshoots work beautifully at any age. The family photos don't depend on your baby being asleep, and slightly older babies give you lovely awake, alert expressions instead. If your baby is already a few weeks old, it's not too late.
-
I allow around an hour and a half, but I keep things flexible. Some photoshoots are quicker, some take a little longer, depending on your baby. We never rush, and we work entirely at your baby's pace.
-
Not much is needed. The main things that help are warmth - babies settle better when they're warm, and good natural light, so it helps to know which rooms are brightest. A quick tidy of the rooms we'll use is all I'd suggest. I'm photographing your family, not your house, so please don't worry about it being perfect.
-
Of course. Photos of older children meeting and holding their new baby brother or sister are some of the most special images from a newborn photoshoot. I'll involve them early while they're fresh, then let them go and play while I focus on the baby and parents.
-
You'll have a private online gallery with at least 40 edited images. I edit your photos over the two to three weeks following the photoshoot, then send you a link to browse and choose your favourites.
-
Yes. As well as newborns, I photograph babies throughout their first year. I also offer a first year package with three photoshoots - newborn, around six months, and the first birthday - to capture how quickly they change.

Just send me a message with your due date or your baby's age and a bit about what you're looking for. I'll get back to you with availability and the next steps.

About Alison
Newborn & baby photographer
Hi, I’m Ali. I’ve been photographing newborns and babies for over a decade now. I spend most of my time either at home with my own family or working with other families so I’m very used to the realities of family life - the unpredictability, the noise, the quiet moments, and everything in between.
I know how tender and tiring those early weeks can feel. My approach is gentle and relaxed - I’m happy to pause for feeds, cuddles, or simply a moment to breathe. You don’t need a perfectly tidy house or a “camera-ready” baby. We work with whatever the day brings.
Baby photography across Bristol
I photograph newborns and babies all over Bristol: Clifton, Redland, Bishopston, Henleaze, Stoke Bishop, Westbury-on-Trym, Bedminster, Brislington, Frenchay, Bradley Stoke, Stoke Gifford, Emersons Green, Long Ashton. I also travel to Bath and cover North Somerset, and South Gloucestershire, depending on availability.
