Family photoshoot, Cheddar
Family photoshoots are such a lovely way to pause and hold onto moments that might otherwise slip by. I spent an afternoon in Cheddar with a family who were celebrating a birthday, and it was the perfect excuse to gather everyone together.
For me, family photography is never just about the “stand and smile” portraits, though we do those too. It’s about the in-between moments: the laughter that bursts out of nowhere, the little glances between parents and children, the way siblings tease each other, or the quiet affection between grandparents and grandchildren. Those are the details that really tell the story of a family.
What made this session extra special was that it spanned three generations. I love shoots like this because they carry so much depth. The joy of little ones running around, the warmth of parents watching them, and the tenderness of grandparents being drawn into the fold. You can see the whole arc of a family in one frame, and that’s a pretty wonderful thing to capture.
The afternoon was full of smiles, laughter, and those quieter moments too. The kind of moments that, years down the line, will bring everyone straight back to this day in Cheddar, to the way it felt to all be together.
That’s the beauty of family photography for me. It isn’t just about creating beautiful images, it’s about keeping hold of the memories that matter most.
If you’d love your own family photoshoot, whether it’s just the kids, or grandparents included too, I’d love to help you capture those memories.
