Family photoshoot with a one year old in Henleaze, Bristol
If you’re looking for a relaxed, natural family photographer in Bristol, this recent session in Henleaze is a lovely example of how beautiful photos can be when taken close to home. I met a wonderful family and their one-year-old boy for a one hour photoshoot just outside their house, where there was a quiet open space and the very last of the autumn leaves.
Keeping the session right outside their home worked brilliantly. At one year old he’s in that magical, slightly wobbly stage of practising his walking, and staying somewhere familiar meant he was immediately comfortable. No travel, no rushing, just relaxed exploring with mum and dad cheering him on. Handfuls of leaves and lots to explore - all the lovely little moments that make this age so special to capture.
Henleaze still provided plenty of warm pockets of colour, even late in the season, and the golden leaves made the perfect backdrop. Nothing posed, nothing forced, just natural photographs of a family spending time together and a little boy discovering the world around him.
I do a lot of family shoots around Bristol, and this one was such a lovely reminder of how natural and easy they can be. You don’t need a big destination or a perfect garden; often the best photos come from familiar places where children feel most themselves. Many of my sessions take place in areas like Henleaze, Redland, Bishopston, Clifton, Westbury-on-Trym, Portishead and around the wider Bristol and North Somerset area, and each one has its own charm.
