Family Photoshoot at Bath Botanical Gardens
I love the Botanical Gardens in Bath. Tucked away inside Royal Victoria Park, it’s one of those places that feels like a secret. Quiet, beautiful, and always changing with the seasons. Perfect for a family shoot.
I met a family visiting from the US who’d chosen the gardens for their photos. They’d been to Bath a few times before, but this trip was their first with their two little boys. Anyone who’s travelled with young children knows that sightseeing in a busy city can quickly tip from “magical” to “meltdown,” so the gardens turned out to be the perfect choice. The boys could run, climb, explore… and their parents could actually relax while we got some gorgeous, natural photos.
And honestly, that’s why I love shooting here. You don’t have to worry about kids staying still. The space and winding paths give them freedom, which means the photos look and feel more real. The backdrops do a lot of the heavy lifting too: blossom in spring, lush green in summer, fiery colours in autumn, and even in winter there’s still something beautiful to work with. Between the flowers, trees, and little stone bridges, there’s always a corner that feels like it was made for a photograph.
Most of all, the gardens have this calm about them. Families settle in, the pressure disappears, and you can see people relax into the experience which is when those natural, candid moments happen.
If you’d love some relaxed family photos in Bath, the Botanical Gardens is one of my favourite places to make that happen.
