9 month old family photoshoot at home in bristol
This family photo session took place in Bristol with mum, dad, and their lovely 9-month-old daughter. We’d originally planned to do most of the shoot outdoors, but as it was November and the weather had turned cold, we decided to keep things flexible and move the majority of the session indoors.
At this age, babies are happiest when they’re warm, familiar with their surroundings, and free to move about — and photographing this little one at home allowed exactly that. We spent time in a few rooms, using natural window light and keeping things relaxed and playful. There was no pressure to pose or perform. Just simple moments together capturing expressions that change almost daily at this stage.
Once we’d captured plenty of images indoors, we wrapped up and headed out for a short walk to some nearby parkland close to their home. The light was soft, the colours muted with late-autumn tones, and it was a lovely way to finish the session.
These final outdoor shots added a different feel to the gallery — a nice mix of cosy, intimate images alongside a handful of fresh, open ones. Even a brief time outside can be enough to create variety without anyone getting too cold or unsettled.
This session was a great reminder of how well home-based family shoots work, especially with babies. There’s no need to rush, no unfamiliar environment to adjust to, and everything you need is already there. When families feel comfortable, it really shows in the photos.
If you’re thinking about a family photo session and aren’t sure whether to go indoors or outdoors, especially in the colder months, a combination of both can work beautifully.
