Family photoshoot for a little 2 year old in Bath
This family photoshoot in Bath was a lovely reminder of why I always like to keep sessions flexible, especially when there’s a two-year-old involved.
We began the session at home, which is often the perfect place to start with young children. Familiar surroundings help everyone relax, and it gives little ones time to warm up without any pressure. She was a very smiley, happy, sociable little one, chatting away as she played with her wooden dolls and happily involving everyone around her. Those moments - sitting on the floor, lining things up, talking to herself are often where the loveliest photos can happen.
There was no rush and no need for constant direction. I simply let her lead the way, photographing what was unfolding rather than trying to pose anything. Her confidence and curiosity really set the tone for the session, making everything very easy and relaxed.
We headed outside to a nearby green area for the second part of the shoot. The change of space brought a new burst of energy. She loved being outdoors, exploring and chatting as she went, which gave us a different set of images that felt playful, light, and full of life.
The combination of indoor and outdoor photos worked beautifully. The indoor images feel calm and intimate, while the outdoor shots add movement and a sense of place, grounding the session in their everyday life in Bath.
Family sessions with toddlers are never about perfection. They’re about following their lead, embracing the unpredictable moments, and capturing the expressions and interactions that parents recognise instantly.
