A family photoshoot in South Gloucestershire with a one year old boy
One is such a great age to photograph. They're starting to move, pulling themselves up on things, getting into everything — but they're still little. It changes so quickly at this stage.
This session was exactly that.
We met at a beautiful spot in South Gloucestershire on a sunny Saturday morning, lovely and bright, with plenty of natural light to work with.
This little one was teething on the day, so wasn't completely settled but that's just real life with a one year old, and it's nothing I haven't worked with plenty of times before. We took it at his pace, kept him close to mum and dad, and gave him space to warm up. With his favourite books and toys at hand, he was soon smiling and entertained by the dog walkers passing by. Not quite steady on his feet yet, but determined to have a go.
The connection between parents and child at this stage is so physical — all the lifting, the cuddles, the "come here" arms and those are the moments that make the best photographs.
